Văn Hiến University – Faculty of Tourism Students on a Field Study Trip in Phan Thiết

Introduction – Learning Tourism Through Real-World Experience

With the aim of connecting academic knowledge with practical industry experience, the Faculty of Tourism – Văn Hiến University organized a field study and experiential learning trip to Phan Thiết – Bình Thuận for students of Tourism & Travel Management, Hotel Management, and Restaurant & Food Service Management.

The 2-day-1-night trip is part of the mandatory practical training program, helping students immerse themselves in a real working environment, gain a clearer understanding of their future professions, and enhance essential soft skills needed in the tourism industry.

A Journey of Knowledge and Real-World Experience

Departing from Ho Chi Minh City in high spirits, students and lecturers of the Faculty of Tourism enjoyed a meaningful journey to the coastal city of Phan Thiết – one of Vietnam’s leading tourism destinations.

Throughout the trip, students were divided into professional groups, taking on various roles such as tour guides, tour operators, group managers, event organizers, and hotel supervisors. This allowed them to directly experience the jobs they are studying for.

Key Destinations Included:

Visiting Duc Thanh School – A Historic Site Associated with President Ho Chi Minh

During the field trip to Phan Thiết, one of the most meaningful stops for students was Duc Thanh School – where President Ho Chi Minh, then known as Teacher Nguyễn Tất Thành, taught in 1910 before leaving Vietnam to seek a path to national salvation.

At this preserved historic site, students had the opportunity to explore the original school grounds, including the classroom, living quarters, water well, and garden. The simple and humble atmosphere of Duc Thanh School offered students a deeper understanding of the early years of President Ho Chi Minh’s life, his patriotic spirit, and his aspirations for the nation.

The visit provided not only valuable historical knowledge but also helped foster gratitude, national pride, and inspiration for learning and self-improvement among today’s young generation.

Wine Castle, Fish Sauce Museum… – where first-year students had the chance to explore new knowledge and gain early exposure to the tourism industry.
Suoi Hong (Fairy Stream), Po Sah Inu Cham Towers, Old Fishing Village Museum – culturally-rich destinations that helped students deepen their understanding of the cultural identity of the South Central Coast.
• Visits to resorts and hotels such as ASTERIA Resort, K-Town Resort, and Wonderland Resort to learn about management procedures, customer service, and international service standards.

Alongside academic activities, students also participated in beach team-building games and a gala dinner, where they showcased their talents, creativity, and teamwork. The energetic, youthful atmosphere left a lasting impression on lecturers and local partners.
