My Journey of Growth with the Faculty of Tourism – Van Hien University
I am currently a third-year student majoring in Hotel Management at the Faculty of Tourism, Van Hien University. Looking back on the past three years, I realize that my time studying here has not only helped me accumulate professional knowledge but has also been a meaningful journey of self-discovery—allowing me to better understand myself, the profession I have chosen, and the path I wish to pursue in the future.
Before entering university, I chose Hotel Management out of my interest in a dynamic working environment and my desire to interact and work with people. While exploring different educational institutions, I learned about the Faculty of Tourism at Van Hien University as a place that places strong emphasis on practical experience and skills development for students. At that time, my decision to choose Van Hien University was somewhat intuitive; however, after three years of study and hands-on experience, it has proven to be a choice that is both appropriate and truly worthwhile.
During my first year as a university student, I inevitably felt overwhelmed. Everything was new—from learning methods and group work to approaching specialized courses. However, what gradually helped me feel reassured and adapt was the closeness and dedication of the lecturers in the Faculty. The lecturers not only delivered academic knowledge but were also always willing to listen, support, and share real-world professional experiences. Over each semester, I had the opportunity to study fundamental courses such as Introduction to Tourism, Introduction to Hotel Management, and Sustainable Tourism Development, alongside professional practice modules including front office operations, housekeeping, and bartending. These courses provided me with a comprehensive understanding of the industry and gradually helped me shape a clearer career direction.
One of the most memorable experiences during my three years at the Faculty of Tourism was a two-day, one-night field trip to Da Lat, Lam Dong Province in my second year. This trip significantly broadened my perspective. Throughout the journey, I had the chance to experience various types of accommodation, from nature-oriented glamping sites to high-end resorts, while learning about operational processes and service organization in highland tourism destinations. In addition, I listened to career stories shared by local tourism professionals, visited Da Lat Market, and observed how tourism is closely connected to local cultural life. Although the trip was physically demanding due to the tight schedule and continuous activities, it was extremely enjoyable and memorable. It was also the first time I was able to clearly observe how hotels and accommodation facilities operate in real life, helping me realize that the hotel industry requires not only professional knowledge but also flexibility, meticulousness, and a strong sense of responsibility. Throughout the trip, lecturers and instructors consistently accompanied, supported, and cared for students, allowing me to deeply feel the Faculty’s strong sense of responsibility and commitment to learners.
Beyond academic study, I was fortunate to become a content collaborator for the Faculty of Tourism starting from my first year. This opportunity allowed me to engage more closely with Faculty activities while developing my writing skills, content thinking, and professional work attitude. From being a rather shy student, I gradually became more confident in expressing my personal perspectives and more aware of my responsibilities in every task assigned.

Through my academic journey, extracurricular involvement, and practical experiences, I have witnessed many positive changes in myself. One particularly memorable milestone was when my submission won the First Prize (Audience Choice Award) in September in the contest “Impressions of Vietnamese Tourism” organized by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism. This achievement was not only a personal joy but also a meaningful recognition of my continuous learning, experiences, and growth throughout my time at the Faculty of Tourism, Van Hien University. To me, it clearly demonstrates that the knowledge and skills gained in the classroom can be effectively applied in practice when one is committed and willing to challenge oneself.
Three years of university life may not be long, but they have been sufficient for me to clearly perceive my own growth. The Faculty of Tourism, Van Hien University, is not only a place of learning but also an environment where I have been able to engage with reality, gain hands-on experience, and gradually improve myself. As a third-year student majoring in Hotel Management, I hope that my experiences can offer encouragement to younger students. I sincerely hope that future cohorts will actively participate in activities and fully embrace the learning and experiential opportunities provided by the Faculty, as these journeys form a solid foundation for their future professional careers.
Once again, I would like to express my sincere gratitude to the Faculty of Tourism, Van Hien University, and all respected lecturers for their dedication, guidance, and continuous support, which have enabled students to learn, experience, and develop comprehensively. The care, encouragement, and direction from the Faculty have been a vital source of motivation, equipping me with confidence and essential preparation as I pursue a career in Hotel Management.
